This course will be jointly implemented by the Folke Bernadotteacademy (FBA) and the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre (SWEDINT). The objective is to provide the participants with knowledge about how a modern integrated UN mission functions with focus on its three components: civilian, police and military.
Main focus will be on:
- UN Multifunctional Peacekeeping Operations in an integrated mission concept
- Co-ordination and co-operation within a UN HQ and sub HQs between the different components and other organizations working in a conflict area
- Knowledge of the process, structure and policies for the establishment of a UN mission
- General knowledge of the different components (civilian, military and police) in a mission area and their working procedures
- The role of Humanitarian Organizations
- General knowledge of the UN Integrated Mission Planning Process (IMPP) components
- General knowledge of the DDR-process
- General knowledge of the Elections-process
- General knowledge of Gender and Trafficking in a UN mission
- General knowledge of Human Rights perspectives in a UN mission
- General knowledge of Child Protection
- General knowledge of Meeting Techniques, mediation and working with interpreters
Participants
A group of approximately 25 civilian representatives at middle-management level from Governmental-, UN- and/or Humanitarian organizations (Non Governmental organisations) will be prepared during two weeks for assignments in Peacekeeping Operations led by UN or a regional organization.
