The Folke Bernadotte Academy manages a Swedish government appropriation, originally founded in 1982. The purpose of the grant is to support civil society activities and initiatives in the field of peace, disarmament och security policy.

Swedish civil society organisations are eligible to apply twice a year, in Automn and in Spring, after public adevertisement. There are two types of support to apply for, organisational and project support. Decisions on the applications are made in January for the Automn round of applications and in June for the Spring round.

The Folke Bernadotte Academy cooperates and takes an active part in other activities that concern the role of civil society that are relevant to the overall area of interest of the Academy. For example the Academy has hosted international NGO workshops on the theme of the role of civil society in EU civil crisis management.
