The Swedish government has decided to offer human resources aimed at reinforcing the EU engagement in Kirgizstan. Swedish Helena Vazquez has been named national security advisor to the Office of the EU Special Representative (EUSR) for Central Asia, Mr Pierre Morel.

The EU has turned to its member states with an appeal to contribute with civilian experts in order to reinforce the EUSR during a shorter period. The experts will contribute to a deeper comprehension of the situation and an increased awareness of the recent eruptions of violence. Helena Vazquez has been recruited by the Folke Bernadotte Academy in cooperation with the EU Civilian Response Team (CRT), established in 2004 following a Swedish initiative.
