The Conflict Prevention in Practice Program (CPP) is organising a course in Facilitation of Dialogue Processes and Mediation Efforts on April 8 – 14 2010 at its training facilities at Sandö in Sweden.
The course on Sandö addresses the need for practical skills in dialogue and mediation as key tools to transform conflict by peaceful means. The course participants of 25 will include staff from the UN, the OSCE and the EU.
The training is part of the on-going cooperation that CPP has with the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (DPA), and is a joint training with the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC). Participants will be individuals from the UN, the OSCE and the EU and will represent both headquarters and the field.
The objectives of the training is to strengthen the dialogue and mediation and mediation support capacities of both the OSCE and the UN and to provide tools and conceptual principles and promote uniformity in the understanding of and approach to dialogue mediation and, while strengthening support for both. Further objectives are to enhance relations and create networks between the OSCE and the UN/DPA for a better understanding about how each organization works, and to provide an opportunity to facilitate exchanges and create networks between staff from the Headquarters/Secretariat and the field from the two organizations.
Participants are expected to develop skills and knowledge on the entire process of a dialogue or mediation effort by engaging in practical role-play exercises dealing with real situations.
