The Folke Bernadotte Academy has a preparedness to host parties that seek a peaceful coexistence in a political process. A common pattern in conflicts is that positions tend to harden over time and therefore reduces the space for alternative action. Generative dialogue is therefore a crucial activity in order to break a solidified situation and a way to explore differences but also similarities between parties. This is an intellectual as well as a spiritual exercise.
The Academy works with a model developing the individual, in which people’s experience, values, knowledge and mind frame are in the center. We see three distinct phases in a dialogue process; the introduction phase with familiarization of the issues at stake and participants present, the process phase in which facts and perspectives on the situation are interpreted and processed, and the output phase in which conclusions are drawn, previous positions possibly reevaluated and next steps discussed. The overall purpose is to develop a common vision of a common future.
