Competences

The full amount of knowledge and expertise integrated within the competences of the FBA has been acquired through own experiences and the research completed internally, as well as by partners and other external actors. In collaboration with ministries, government agencies and international partners, we serve as a focal point for knowledge and capacity building within Sweden and internationally.

Knowledge can be created and supported in many different ways. The implementation of all our activities is based on and supported by solid field experience in combination with the efforts within the organization to continuously develop and improve content and methods in courses and other knowledge enhancing activities. The Research unit of the FBA is doing research, and thereby accumulating knowledge, as well as promoting and supporting research by other actors. In this context, the Folke Bernadotte Collections plays an important role.

Together with the Armed Forces and other government agencies, knowledge is also generated through national and international experiences in the process of identifying and collecting “lessons learned” and “best practices” in the field of conflict prevention, peace building and security policy. “Best practices” is also an important point of departure in the Academy’s involvement in method- and doctrine development which represents a major component in the work of the International Forum for the Challenges of Peace Operations, coordinated by the Folke Bernadotte Academy.
