The Folke Bernadotte Academy strives to develop core competencies in well-defined and unexplored areas of knowledge. National as well as international research collaboration that aims to inspire further research are of great importance to the FBA and the in-house research activities are designed as to get a research-promoting effect.

The main areas of focus for the FBA include security sector reform, peacekeeping, conflict prevention, the role of women in conflict and legal systems in post-conflict situations.
